My dad, who I miss a lot these days, . . . used to always say in his concerts; "God was thinking about you this week, when you weren't thinking about him". I used to think, as I was sitting there waiting to go onstage to sing with my dad, that sentiment was kind of a cliche. After 20 + years I've started to think that Dad was actually saying that to remind himself, and basically, to hold on. My Dad did not have an easy run at life. He went through a few "Job-like" experiences in his later years. We all need to remember that God is thinking, acting, and running the show all the time, without effort on our part.
This week, I'm preparing to preach John 17, where one of the most unthinkable things happens. Jesus prays for you, and me. God the Son prays to God the Father on your behalf. The Author of Hebrews says it in a very powerful way:
Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
He lives to make intercession for you. That is a profound truth that should affect your outlook for tomorrow, and every day. And if there was ever a person (or, God) whose prayers are always effective, it would be the Son of God, Jesus Christ. Take that to the bank tomorrow. He's thinking about you. Enjoy that, without effort on your part.
