"I am rushing like crazy to do a lot of makeup."
William Peter Blatty is the author of the Exorcist. He's a Roman Catholic man, and has spent his life exploring the supernatural and writing about spiritual things. In an interview with the Washington Post he reflects on his work, his life, and very strange spiritual phenomena that he's experienced. An intriguing read. . . . .here.
By any measure of our world, Mr. Blatty is a successful man; a great author, a measure of fame, even spiritually satisfying experiences, all of which he's had.
But, the last question he answers is (excuse me) rather haunting.
What’s next for you?
This is it. I am very happy with “Finding Peter.” Saint Paul tells us to do good while we can. At age 87, I am rushing like crazy to do a lot of makeup.
Here we see the state of all humanity without the Righteousness of Christ. . . .always striving, always anxious we haven't done enough, and always wondering what happens next (even if we've written extensively about "the other side". If we don't have the finished work of Christ, we have well. . . .unfinished things :). Our own successes and good deeds won't do it. Even those who don't know Christ, know THIS. We need a Savior. We need His Righteousness. There isn't enough time in the world for "a lot of makeup". God's standard is absolute, only met perfectly by His Son, for us.
See the difference in what Peter says below:
It is Finished.
1 Peter 1:3-5
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy,he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
